World-Class Water, On Your Doorstep
Located just outside of London, Dorney Lake offers world-class rowing facilities in a stunning lakeside setting. As a venue for many major events, including the 2012 Olympic Games, it is one of Gillian’s top picks for training in the UK.
Our day sessions at Dorney Lake are designed for rowers of all levels, providing expert coaching in a professional yet supportive environment. With no need for overnight accommodation, rowers can enjoy focused, intensive sessions with the flexibility of attending just for the day. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming, with the beautiful surroundings of the lake inspiring both personal and team progress.
These sessions are perfect for individuals looking to refine their skills, as well as clubs or teams wanting to train on one of the most prestigious rowing courses in the country.
Camp overview
Each of our day sessions at Dorney Lake is carefully structured to provide rowers with a balanced mix of training, technique refinement, and coaching feedback. While the focus is on intensive rowing practice, we ensure there’s ample time for rest and recovery between sessions.
Here’s what you can expect from a typical day at Dorney Lake:
Start the day with an on-water session focusing on technique, power, and endurance.
Take a break to refuel and recharge with light stretching and coaching feedback.
Dive back into the water for tactical drills and boat speed work, fine-tuning your skills with expert guidance.
Finish the session with a brief cool-down and review of your performance, with personalised feedback from our coaches.

Flexible Days, Flawless Water
Training That Fits Your Week
1 to 5 Days, All on the Water
Dorney camps are built around flexibility. Depending on which camp you book, sessions run anywhere from a single day to a full five days — whatever suits the training block you need.
How It Works
Camps are non-residential, based at Lake Dorney, and all equipment is provided — just turn up and row. If accommodation is required, please contact Gillian at gillian@glcamps.co.uk, who will be able to advise on the options. Video analysis is also available for anyone who wants a closer look at their technique.
Training at Dorney
Dorney Lake is about as good as flat water gets – a 2,200m international regatta course, calm, and purpose-built for rowing. Sessions run from 08:00 to 13:00 each day, giving coaches the whole morning to work through technique, fitness or race preparation depending on what you’re training for.
